Anchal quilts are made from six layers of 100% recycled cotton sari held together by a simple running stitch.
The quilts are traditionally made by women in poorer communities with limited resources. In West Bengal, where one of our partner organizations, New Light, is based, these quilts are called kantha quilts. In Rajasthan, where another partner organization, Anoothi, is based, these quilts are called gudari. Muslims in North India – the majority of Anchal Artisans at Anoothi - call them raliya.
